Cursi nei secoli
"Cursi, operosa cittadina al centro della provincia di Lecce, a sedici chilometri dal mare, venne fondata, come stazione di posta, dai Romani attorno alla metà del terzo secolo a. C., poco dopo la vittoriosa guerra contro Taranto.
In epoca altomedioevale, verosimilmente nel IX secolo, durante la dominiazione bizantina, venne edificata la Chiesa di S. Stefano o di S. Giorgio.
Solo agli inizi dell'Età Moderna nacque però la cittadina così come la conosciamo attualmente, ovviamente molto più piccola, dalla fusione di due piccoli borghi, uno di rito greco, lo Trioti, l'altro di rito latino, le Logne.
Il rito greco si spense del tutto nel 1680.
Dalla fine del Trecento agli inizi dell'Ottocento vi dominarono i Maramonti, che costruirono il Palazzo Baronale, i Venturi, i Cicinelli ed i Caracciolo.
La cosa più bella da vedere a Cursi è la Chiesa del Convento degli Agostignani, edificata sul finire del XV secolo, con i suoi altari in perfetto stile Barocco, tra cui assai pregevole quello dedicato a San Nicola di Tolentino.
Nella primavera del 1799 i monaci Agostignani suonarono le campane a martello per chiamare i contadini alla rivolta per appoggiare l'azione dell'Armata Reale e Cattolica del cardinale Ruffo contro gli invasori francesi e giacobini".

How to get there
By car coming from Northern Italy go all over as far as Bari through the highway A14, then go on to the south towards the motorway Bari-Lecce. When you reach Lecce go all over the S.S. 16 "Adriatica" towards Maglie until you will find the exit to Cursi.
By plane you can reach Salento by any flight landing to Brindisi airport, then you can choose whether catch the bus going to Lecce or rent a car. If you choose to catch the bus up to Lecce then at the first stop in the city you can catch the FSE bus to reach Cursi
By train you can reach Salento through the Adriatica direction (Milan, Bologna, Pescara) or through direction Rome-Caserta and once in Lecce catch the FSE bus to reach Cursi
