History
Villa Mogghi built on the middle of 19th century according to wisches of count Lanza of Mazzarino, feudal overlord and protagonist of sicilian events that Giuseppe Tomasi of Lampedusa, at time landowner of 5.232.000 m² only in the Acate surroundings, tells in his Gattopardo. The fief was called “Iardineddu” (“Small Garden”) for both its vegetation flourishing in a mild and solar climate as its tiny size compared with all other fiefs. At the end of feudalism, after Unification of Italy, a lot of fiefs was fragmented and also “u Iardineddu”. Count Lanza was forced to cede it but he decided do not sell it and so give it as a present of baptism to the last regent of Iacono family of Gela. During Second War, Villa Mogghi witnessed also to the American landing at Acate’s beaches of Macconi on July 1943. At last on 1997 was bought by present owners, the Cappello family, that since then are managing with passion Villa Mogghi and his fields.
