THE HAWKS’ HILL
There's a road that crosses a wood that makes one feeling in another world. Less than a mile's walk surrounded by trees. Then, all of a sudden the wood is no longer and the hill is in front of you. You're up high in the middle of a large field. In front of you, on the horizon, the sea and the sky melt into one and makes you feel engulfed by its vastness. The house is not immediately visible, being just below the field, almost hidden and in complete harmony with these wonders of nature.
The simplicity of this place is everything. There is nothing false nor superfluous, in fact you'll find everything you could possibly need to feel at one with nature in both mind and spirit.
You can sit in complete silence, listen to the wind or observe the elegance of a family of three buzzards as they float above this area which has been their home for years.
It's easy to loose the sense of time whilst watching a sunset that lights up the sky with infinite shades of red and which in turn gives the sea a magical touch.
Marco and Gabriella live here with their three children, Jaya ('96), Shantala ('98) and Sophiamaria ('03), and inside their house you can breath their simplicity and warmth. It's by no means a villa and there's no over the top feeling to the way it is furnished. In fact, you'll find the essence of a choice that reflects feelings towards articles rather than simply shape being important. The frenetic rhythm of life, deadlines and daily stress are part of a life beyond the wood. Here, time passes in a totally different way as you live and breath at nature's pace.
At their table, you'll find home-made bread, the eggs laid by the hens lovingly looked after by Marco together with the other animals of the 'Collina' (Hill), the pies and cakes Gabriella skilfully makes, and the vegetables grown in their vegetable garden. If you're seeking simple comfort along with a genuine and peaceful life, be you an adult or child or even an animal, well this is the place for you. All are welcome at 'La Collina dei Falchi' (The Hawks’ Hill), a place perhaps outside the world of today but not too far from it. Not far away you will find the famous Tuscan art cities, from Lucca to Florence, to Pisa and Siena, and down in the valley, there's the sea and the lively Versilia towns and resorts.
At 'La Collina dei Falchi' (The Hawks’ Hill) you can get away from it all, in a peaceful corner of paradise where you can regenerate your energies far from the hustle bustle of the outside world. Perhaps you can just stop by and witness the wonders of complete darkness on a night lit up by millions of stars or wait to see the colours of the sky as dawn breaks. Then, you'll discover how difficult it is to say goodbye to the 'collina', when in the evening whilst getting ready to leave, you watch another memorable sunset light up the sky and begin to feel nostalgic.
